Product Details

3M™ Dynamar™ Polymer Processing Additive FX 9614 is a free flowing granular form of a fluoropolymer designed for use at very low levels to improve the processing of thermoplastics. This processing additive helps eliminate melt fracture, reduce or eliminate die build-up, and reduce waste and equipment downtime.

At the very low use levels (typically 200 – 800 ppm) necessary to improve processing, 3M™ Dynamar™ Polymer Processing Additive FX 9614 does not alter or detract from the mechanical properties associated with high strength plastics.

Dynamar polymer processing additive FX 9614 can offer performance advantages. It exhibits exceptional commercial utility in low melt index film-grade (LLPDE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE). This product is especially effective in polyolefin resins containing antiblock agents, basic additives (such as hindered amine light stabilizers), titanium dioxide-based pigments, and other inorganic additives. It can also be used at very low levels to reduce extruder die build-up when processing LLDPE and other polyolefin resins. FX 9614 permits processors to use high strength resins which otherwise could not be processed on available equipment. As a processing additive, it can reduce or eliminate melt fracture and can reduce extruder torque. Through optimization of the extrusion process, the use of FX 9614 may also allow for an increase in output, and can yield films with enhanced and balanced bi-directional physical properties, and improved clarity and gloss.

Blown Film Extrusion
High performance polyolefins, such as LLDPE and mLLDPE, provide exceptional film properties; however, they can also be difficult to process. Common issues include melt fracture (also known as sharkskin), die build-up, gel formation and surface defects. 3M™ Dynamar™ Polymer Processing Additives (PPAs) such as FX 9614, are proven to be an effective solution for the majority of these processing problems.

It Can Take the Heat
Dynamar polymer processing additive FX 9614 delivers excellent melt fracture elimination under high temperature extrusion conditions. It can also improve throughput and reduce surface imperfections at very low use levels. With trends toward higher throughput rates and higher strength resins, the stress on the extruded polymer melt is increased. The stress on the emerging polymer melt can cause the surface to rupture, creating surface imperfections known as melt fracture.

Dynamar PPAs reduce the stress at the die by continuously forming a thin, low surface energy coating within the extrusion die. This results in elimination of melt fracture and allows for increased throughput without affecting the surface properties of the film. You get smooth film, no sharkskin and an excellent finished product. Because PPAs do not migrate to the surface of the film, there are no negative effects on converting processes like printing or heat sealing. Additionally, Dynamar polymer processing additive FX 9614 can help you avoid a number of other problems, including die build-up, interfacial instability, gel formation, and surface defects.

Add a Little, Get a Lot!
3M™ Dynamar™ Polymer Processing Additives (PPAs) are a family of high-performance products designed to enhance the extrusion of various thermoplastic polymers, improving quality and output. For many years, manufacturers of extruded products have depended on Dynamar PPAs to reduce or eliminate die build-up, melt fracture, gel formation and other common processing issues.

With efficiency in mind, users can add a small amount of Dynamar PPAs to get the desired result. At low concentration levels, this product can help increase throughput and processing efficiency – even for tougher, high viscosity resins. In addition, by reducing surface defects, Dynamar PPAs deliver a smoother, glossier final product while minimizing waste – helping manufacturers maximize profit.
